Valet Trash guide

How Does Valet Trash Work?

Understand valet trash setup, resident set-out, collection, verification, cart return, issue handling, and property reporting.

Valet trash works through a defined handoff: residents or property teams prepare approved waste, a service team moves it to the collection point, and the provider documents completion and exceptions.

Before service begins

The property and provider confirm the service area, route, access, schedule, containers, accepted material, safety rules, and communication plan.

A site walk should identify stairs, gates, lighting, compactor or dumpster conditions, cart storage, traffic, and places where overflow occurs.

During the service window

Residents place approved material or carts according to the published window. The service team follows the route, records exceptions, and moves waste to the agreed downstream point.

Curbside service includes a second movement after municipal collection when carts are returned to their storage locations.

Accountability after collection

The scope should explain how completed stops, contamination, blocked access, late set-outs, overflow, and missed service are documented and resolved.

Property teams benefit from a single escalation channel and reporting that distinguishes resident compliance issues from provider performance issues.

Frequently asked questions

Do residents need to be home?

Usually not, as long as waste or carts are prepared in the agreed place and access is available.

What happens with prohibited items?

The provider should leave them safely in place and document the exception according to the property’s policy.

How are missed stops handled?

The contract should define reporting evidence, response time, recovery options, and responsibility.
