How the waste volume estimate works
The model estimates occupied households, then multiplies that count by bags per household per week. Bag count multiplied by average bag capacity produces an estimated gallon volume. Monthly values use 52 weeks divided across 12 months rather than assuming every month has exactly four weeks.
Collection volume divides weekly gallons by weekly collection frequency. If a container capacity is supplied, the calculator shows approximate container equivalents per collection and per week.
Choose property-specific assumptions
Bag generation varies with household size, turnover, season, property rules, recycling participation, and what residents place outside their doors. A labeled bag size is also a capacity, not proof that every bag is completely full.
Use waste audits, hauler reports, container observations, and property-team experience when available. Run a low, expected, and high scenario instead of treating one output as scientific precision.
Use the result for service planning
Estimated volume can help frame container capacity, collection frequency, route workload, peak-day planning, and questions for a waste-service provider. It does not determine a dumpster size, hauling contract, staffing level, or regulatory requirement by itself.
A site walk remains important because distance, stairs, access hours, compactor conditions, overflow patterns, and local rules can matter as much as raw volume.
